Pete Welch

Coach Welch is in his 30th year at the helm of the wrestling program and 31st year overall at the school. It has been a long journey with many great accomplishments and proud memories. Our Hall of Fame Coach has the sport in his blood by no accident. His father, John Welch is also a Hall of Fame Coach Honoree for Ridge High School in Basking Ridge, NJ. Prior to his coaching accomplishments, Coach Welch was blessed with a successful career as a competitor as well. His many accolades include a NJ High School State Championship and NCAA All America Honors for the University of North Carolina. Coach Welch is excited about the growth of the current team as well as the future of the McDonogh Wrestling Program. He is also thrilled to be working everyday with some of our greatest wrestling alumni who also happen to be amazing coaches and people in their own right. Coach Welch lives in Owings Mills with his wife Patty, who is equally committed to the school as a lower school librarian. Coach and Mrs. Coach have three children, Abbey’15 (and her husband Max Bode), Natalie ‘19, and Kevin ‘21 who were all raised on campus at the school. Needless to say the Welch Family is all in at McDonogh.
